"A woman who escaped a fire and the lead detective who investigated it testified Thursday in the Tonya Lucas arson and murder trial. Lucas is accused of killing six of her seven children in 1992. Prosecutors are focusing on what Lucas did prior to, during and after the fire.  Mary Harris, who lived in the basement of the East Eager Street house, told jurors that she and Lucas were playing cards the night before and doing crack cocaine. Harris testified that Lucas told her that night that if a fire started, the best way for her to get out was through a basement window. Harris said Lucas had never made a statement like that before..........Harris said Lucas also blamed the fire on another person who lived there, Andre Moore, claiming he threw a Molotov cocktail at the house. Police initially arrested Moore but released him. The lead detective, Bertina Silver, told jurors that she considered all of the adults in the house as suspects, but the evidence led to Lucas. Prosecutors are trying to show that Lucas neglected her children. Silver told jurors about viewing some of the child victims, including Lucas' 2-year-old son, Gregory, who weighed 10 pounds when he died."
