GIST:  "Police found 190 items in Mark Lundy's car including the polo shirt the Crown alleges was smeared with his wife's brain tissue, a court has heard.
The identification of the tissue found on the shirt is a hotly contested topic that the jury hearing Lundy's retrial is expected to hear more about in the coming weeks. Lundy, 56, has pleaded not guilty to murdering his wife Christine, 38, and daughter Amber, 7, on August 30, 2000, at their Palmerston North home......... During his examination Hansen noted the odometer reading of Lundy's car. It was also taken to a petrol station and filled with 57.9 litres of fuel. The records were use to try to identify the distance Lundy had travelled. The Crown alleges Lundy made a secret trip home from Wellington during the night and murdered his family. The defence says that was impossible based on the petrol used and estimated distance covered. The case resumes on Monday."

See related story: "The Crown has accused Lundy of staging a burglary at the house. A box of jewellery belonging to Mrs Lundy that was reported missing after her murder has never been found. On Friday the jury was shown several items taken from Lundy's car days after his wife and daughter's bodies were discovered on August 30. Inspector Sean Hansen testified that he helped seize and record items, including a silver bracelet found on the passenger side of Lundy's sedan. The Crown says the bracelet is linked to the murders. But during cross-examination, defence counsel David Hislop QC attacked the way police seized evidence from the car. Insp Hansen had recorded seizing the bracelet on September 18, which conflicted with testimony from Mrs Lundy's sister-in-law, Maria Norrelle, who said police had shown her the bracelet on September 10.
"You can't have seized it on the 18th of September when you're showing it to a woman eight days earlier," said Mr Hislop. "Something's gone wrong, hasn't it?"
The policeman said he now believes he may have taken the bracelet from the car, shown it to Mrs Lundy's sister-in-law, then put it back before it was recorded as evidence. "Yes, I accept that it's probably not best of practice, but that's the only explanation I can make for what's happened," said Insp Hansen. Mr Hislop also questioned whether police had taken enough precaution against cross-contamination, with police saying they had followed standard procedure."
