AMANDA KNOX: "KNOX VERDICT EXPOSES "FAILINGS"; SHORT MONTREAL GAZETTE EDITORIAL SAYS A GREAT DEAL:

"Italians should use this case to demand marked improvements in the investigation and prosecution of crimes on its soil."

EDITORIAL: THE MONTREAL GAZETTE;

--------------------------------------------------------

"Even as Amanda Knox went home to Seattle a free woman, cleared by an Italian appeals court of the 2007 murder of British student Meredith Kercher, Italy's justice system refused to give up," the Montreal gazette editorial published on October 8, 2011 under the heading, "Knox verdict exposes failings," begins.

"Barely a day after letting her go, the appeals-court judge said he was not convinced Knox was innocent," the editorial, called "the Gazette's view in short", continues.

"The only words out of the judge's mouth should have been "Mea culpa." There was no forensic evidence to convict Knox. The only DNA found at the crime scene belonged to the person convicted of the killing, Rudy Guede. Italians should use this case to demand marked improvements in the investigation and prosecution of crimes on its soil. Failure to do so will just add the sin of stubbornness to that of sloth."
