"The attempted murder charge against Anna Yocca is scheduled to be dismissed March 29, but the Murfreesboro woman accused in a botched self-abortion will still face a judge. A plea to dismiss the charge was on the circuit court docket Monday morning, but her attorney, Gerald Melton, requested the motion be heard in March instead. Melton told Circuit Court Judge Royce Taylor that Assistant District Attorney Hugh Ammerman will take the case back to the grand jury in March with a different charge.........Yocca, 31, of Swindon Circle was originally arrested Dec. 16 and charged with attempted first-degree murder after a failed attempt to end her pregnancy in September. Murfreesboro Detective Tommy Roberts reported at the time of Yocca's arrest that she had filled a bathtub with water, “took a coat hanger and attempted to self-abort her pregnancy.” Frightened by the amount of blood she was losing, Yocca had her boyfriend take her to Saint Thomas Rutherford Medical Center, according to the police report.........Protesters from around the country filled the courtroom at her arraignment in December to show support for Yocca, chanting “Abortion is not murder."
