Leo Ackley; Michigan; Bulletin; Shaken baby syndrome case; WWMT reports that jury deliberations are underway..."Prosecutors say the injury was caused by Ackley, who was watching Baylee while her mother was at work. Today, the defense offered an alternative theory, calling Ackley's mother to the stand to testify. Linda Byrd said five days before Baylee was hospitalized, she hit her head trying to jump from an exercise trampoline to a child's pool."

"The fate of a Battle Creek man accused of killing a 3-year-old girl is now in the hands of a jury.
Leo Ackley was already convicted in the 2011 death of his girlfriend's daughter, Baylee Stenman. But in 2015, the Michigan Supreme Court granted him a new trial. Baylee died of a subdural hematoma--when a pool of blood forms between the brain and its outermost covering--caused by head trauma. Prosecutors say the injury was caused by Ackley, who was watching Baylee while her mother was at work. Today, the defense offered an alternative theory, calling Ackley's mother to the stand to testify. Linda Byrd said five days before Baylee was hospitalized, she hit her head trying to jump from an exercise trampoline to a child's pool."
