PASSAGE OF THE DAY: "Investigation Discoveries’ promotional video highlights a segment of Read reviewing how computer forensics expert Richard Green found that key witness Jennifer McCabe made a suspicious Google search of “hos long to die in the cold” hours before O’Keefe’s body was found, which the defense says points toward conspiracy. “If Jen McCabe knew at 2:27 that John was about to be or was placed in the cold,” Read says, “that’s highly incriminating."

GIST: "Karen Read says she’s “on trial” for her “life right now” in a new docuseries set to premiere across three nights beginning on Monday as her second murder trial looms just weeks away.

“I am on trial for my life right now,” Read says in a promo video of Investigation Discoveries’ docuseries. “They want you to believe that I killed John (O’Keefe), but their rush to prosecute me will bite them in the ass.”

The premier episode is set to air on Monday at 9 p.m. on Investigation Discovery and streaming on MAX and follows similar documentaries of the case which has fascinated true crime fans and anti-police-corruption activists across Greater Boston and the country.

ABC’s 20/20 highlighted the case and first trial in an episode last September before NBC’s Dateline had a special in October.

Investigation Discoveries’ series will feature segments of an interview with Herald courts and crime reporter Flint McColgan, who has covered the case from the beginning.

Read, 45, is accused of striking O’Keefe, her boyfriend of two years and a 16-year Boston Police officer, with her car and leaving him to die in a major snowstorm on the front lawn of 34 Fairview Rd., in Canton — a property that O’Keefe’s BPD colleague Brian Albert owned at the time.

Defense attorneys counter that outside actors killed O’Keefe and conspired with state and local police to frame Read for his murder in the early morning hours of Jan. 29, 2022.

Read has pleaded not guilty and a trial on the charges of second-degree murder, manslaughter while operating a motor vehicle under the influence and leaving the scene of a fatal accident.

Her first trial ended in a mistrial declaration last July when jurors indicated they were deadlocked. The second trial is set to begin on April 1.

Investigation Discoveries’ promotional video highlights a segment of Read reviewing how computer forensics expert Richard Green found that key witness Jennifer McCabe made a suspicious Google search of “hos long to die in the cold” hours before O’Keefe’s body was found, which the defense says points toward conspiracy.

“If Jen McCabe knew at 2:27 that John was about to be or was placed in the cold,” Read says, “that’s highly incriminating.""

PUBLISHER'S NOTE:  I am grateful to 'Authory' a valuable service which  creates a portfolio of all of my posts since I fired  my  first post into the cybersphere  on the   Charles Smith Blog    on September 29, 2007, some 17 years ago. Today's post is number 11, 784  Yikes! Yes, this is a compulsion, but it's a healthy one ! One of the best features of 'Authory'  (which I am trying out on the Blog for the first time, is a search engine for the portfolio  which  makes it easier  for  readers to follow the many important cases, issues and developments (and occasional rants)  in the area of flawed  pathology, flawed pathologists, and whatever else might cross my mind  in jurisdictions throughout the world which are at the heart of the Blog. So, dear reader, you can access the portfolio at the following link. Just type the inquiry into the  search box  at the following link,  and hit enter.  (The search box is on the top write side of the page under 'Read more.' Why not try it out, and,  as encouraging  use of this search function  by my readers is rather new to me, any feedback on how it is working would be appreciated at: hlevy15@gmail.com. Cheers!

FINAL WORD:  (Applicable to all of our wrongful conviction cases):  "Whenever there is a wrongful conviction, it exposes errors in our criminal legal system, and we hope that this case — and lessons from it — can prevent future injustices."

Lawyer Radha Natarajan:

Executive Director: New England Innocence Project;

FINAL, FINAL WORD: "Since its inception, the Innocence Project has pushed the criminal legal system to confront and correct the laws and policies that cause and contribute to wrongful convictions.   They never shied away from the hard cases — the ones involving eyewitness identifications, confessions, and bite marks. Instead, in the course of presenting scientific evidence of innocence, they've exposed the unreliability of evidence that was, for centuries, deemed untouchable." So true!
