The CBC'S Fifth Estate is returning to the subject of Dr. Charles Smith with a probe of the Mullins-Johnson case to be telecast on Wednesday, January 7, 2009.
The program, called, "A Death In The Family," is described by the CBC, which has distinguished itself its previous work on Smith, as follows:
"After serving twelve years in prison for murder, William Mullins-Johnson was finally cleared of all charges in the 1993 death of his four-year-old niece, Valin. Mullins-Johnson had been convicted on the basis of pathology evidence that was even!tually discredited, including reports from the now infamous Dr. Charles Smith. A grievous wrong had been corrected, but for Bill Mullins-Johnson and the rest of his family, a new nightmare was playing out. Valin's death, and Bill's wrongful conviction for murder, had split his family in two. As Gillian Findlay reports, once bound by love, two brothers were now bound by hate and suspicion."
