TAMMY MARQUARDT RETROSPECTIVE: PART TEN; A SALUTE TO HER LAWYER; COLUMN; JOE WARMINGTON; THE TORONTO SUN;
"MEANWHILE, THERE IS NO WORD HOW THE CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION IS GOING ON THE CHARLIE SMITH CASE. PROBABLY MOVING AS FAST AS THE PACE AT A MAPLE LEAF STANLEY CUP PARADE COMMITTEE MEETING. WHAT A DISGRACE! HOW MANY LIVES WERE RUINED? AT LEAST THE PROVINCE CAN WRITE MORE SMOKING-IN-THE-CAR TICKETS AND MAKE PEOPLE WEAR HELMETS WHEN THEY SKI."

PUBLISHER'S NOTE: Like Bill Mullins-Johnson, Sherry Sherret, two women who cannot be identified by name and Dinesh Kumar - all victims of Dr. Charles Smith who have been acquitted by the province's highest court often years after their conviction - Tammy Marquardt will be asking the Ontario Court of Appeal to clear her name. (At least five other similar appeals are pending). Ms. Marquardt's appeal is set for Thursday February 10, 2011. In anticipation of this important date I am running a retrospective of 14 posts which ran previously on this Blog.

TAMMY MARQUARDT CASE: PART (10); A SALUTE TO HER LAWYER; TORONTO SUN COLUMN; JOE WARMINGTON;
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Warmington's column. published on March 14th, 2009, runs under the heading, "Lockyer to the rescue: Hirsute legal eagle wins another battle for the wrongly convicted."
"The first star of the week has to be super lawyer James Lockyer," the column begins.
"This guy is a legal god," it continues.
"The big question is who is going to play him in the movie?
"Somebody with lots of hair, Scrawler," says comedian Frenchie McFarlane of the Canadian legal legend, who has helped so many wrongly accused get their lives back including Guy Paul Morin, William Mullins-Johnson, Robert Baltovich and Steven Truscott.
His latest client is Tammy Marquardt, who thanks to flimsy testimony from disgraced pathologist Dr. Charles Smith, spent 14 years in the slammer for the so-called murder of her two-and-half-year-old son Kenneth Wynne, which now looks to be an accident.
Lockyer got her bail and an exoneration is expected. Get your cheque book ready Dalton.
And if the Crown decides to no longer proceed, please write her a separate cheque to help find the two children she lost to adoption as she was facing prison. This whole story is disturbing.
Word is last night she is receiving medical attention as she adjusts to her new life.
Meanwhile, there is no word how the criminal investigation is going on the Charlie Smith case. Probably moving as fast as the pace at a Maple Leaf Stanley Cup parade committee meeting. What a disgrace! How many lives were ruined? At least the province can write more smoking-in-the-car tickets and make people wear helmets when they ski.
Meanwhile, there are people like Muhammad, who works at Tim Hortons downtown but back home in Bangladesh tells me he is a doctor. I wouldn't want Smith making my coffee either but you get the point. That men like Muhammad are not able to be doctors here and people like Smith are is a joke.
One thing that should happen is Lockyer receive the Order of Canada for his work and that a movie is made on this case and many of the others. Who is going to play Tammy Marquardt? Sarah Polley would be perfect but I know lots of Canadian actresses who would kill for that part -- not literally Dr. Smith."

PUBLISHER'S NOTE: The Toronto Star, my previous employer for more than twenty incredible years, has put considerable effort into exposing the harm caused by Dr. Charles Smith and his protectors - and into pushing for reform of Ontario's forensic pediatric pathology system. The Star has a "topic" section which focuses on recent stories related to Dr. Charles Smith. It can be accessed at:
