STORY: "Jury finds Ritchey guilty of murder, not guilty of aggravated murder, in "Geauga's Child" case, by Reporters Avery Williams and Alec Sapolio, published by News 19 on April 4, 2022.
GIST: "The murder trial in the high-profile “Geauga’s Child” case came to an end after the jury found Gail Ritchey guilty of murder and not guilty of aggravated murder.
Ritchey, the woman who authorities alleged was responsible for the murder of her newborn son, did not testify in her own defense.
Judge David Ondrey sent the jury to deliberations at noon Monday, after the prosecution and defense finished their closing arguments.
The jury returned from deliberations a little before 5:30 p.m.
Ritchey was taken into custody shortly after the deliberations were read.
Geauga County Sheriff Scott Hildenbrand confirmed that Ritchey is being held at the Geauga County Jail.
