Alison Dorsey: Iowa; Bulletin: Second trial beginning for daycare provider following initial deadlocked jury mistrial, The Atlanta News Telegraph (Reporter Laura Bacon) reports..."Dorsey was running a daycare in Massena in October 2019 when the infant — who had been attending the daycare with his twin and an older sibling — died. The child’s father had dropped the child off, and Dorsey later called him because the child was having difficulty breathing. CPR was attempted, 911 was called, the child was transported first to Cass Health in Atlantic, and later to a hospital in Omaha, where he died. A first trial, in the fall of 2021, resulted in a deadlocked jury after six days. The trial was moved to Council Bluffs after the mistrial was declared." (This has been reported as a 'shaken baby syndrome' case. I will keep an eye out for developments. HL);

STORY:  "Dorsey murder trial begins again in Council Bluffs," by Staff Writer  Laura Bacon, published by The Atlanta News Telegraph, on May 3, 2023.

GIST: "A second trial is beginning for Alison Dorsey, charged with first degree murder and child endangerment resulting in death, after a child died in her care in October 2019.

Judge Amy Zacharias and the prosecutor for the case, felt that the case couldn’t be tried again in Cass County, due to extensive publicity.

On March 24, a pre-trial conference was held and the court entered an order on different issues on both the defense and plaintiff’s motions, with the court discussing character evidence and a scientific technique, reserving its ruling on the first and upholding a prior ruling on the other. A large number of exhibits were listed for the trial along with a long list of subpoenas.

On Monday, Pottawattamie County District Court began jury selection at 9 a.m."
