Willie Grimes: North Carolina; The Hickory Daily Record says Innocence commission is another means for justice;

STORY: "Innocence Commission another means for justice" by the editorial staff of the Hickory Daily record published on April 5, 2012.

GIST: "The innocence commission concluded that evidence never presented at his trial is reason to have a three-judge panel examine the case as provided by state law. Grimes had several people testify that he was not at the victim’s home on the night of the sexual assault. The evidence presented at trial is subject to a significant margin of error. Those elements, plus fingerprints on bananas at the victim’s residence that do not match Grimes’ but a man with a criminal record at the time of the assault, was enough to convince the innocence commission that Grimes could be telling the truth. Even the sister of the person who gave Grimes’ name to Crimestoppers said he’s not guilty. This is good news for Grimes, but his freedom is not a certainty. The judicial panel will rule based on evidence and testimony. Reversing or vacating a conviction is not automatic. But Willie Grimes has new hope that he will be a free man one day."
