George Souliotes: California. (Arson "science" case); Judge keeps him in jail pending third trial on murder and arson charges (in spite of unreliability of arson "science" used to convict him); But The judge makes a ruling in his favour. The Modesto Bee.

STORY: "Judge keeps Souliotes in jail for trial in fatal 1997 Modesto fire," by reporter Rosalio Ahumada, published by the Modesta Bee on June 10, 2013.

GIST:  -- A Stanislaus County Superior Court judge Monday morning refused to dismiss murder and arson charges against a 72-year-old man awaiting his third trial in the case. George Souliotes also will remain in Stanislaus County Jail, Judge Donald Shaver decided. But in a win for the defense, the judge also threw out in-court identification of Souliotes from a key witness used in prior trials, calling the testimony “way too speculative.” Souliotes, a former landlord, is accused in the 1997 deaths of a mother and her two small children who were asleep in a Ronald Avenue home he owned when a fire started. A federal judge overturned Souliotes’ 2000 conviction.
