GIST: Federal authorities are looking into allegations that members of the Phoenix Fire Department violated the civil rights of two people who were accused of burning their homes. Television station KPNX reports (http://bit.ly/10bBVUv ) that there was no evidence connecting Barbara Sloan and Carl Caples to the burning of their homes. Their cases were eventually dropped by Maricopa County prosecutors. Sloan spent $300,000 to defend herself, while Caples spent 16 months in jail awaiting trial. The two filed complaints against the fire department with the U.S. Attorney's Office in Phoenix.
