Chris Tapp; Idaho; Participants in rally - attended by Carol Dodge, mother of Angie Dodge, the murder victim, and Tapp's mother, Vera discuss how to apply pressure to free him..."Carol Dodge took the stage at the end of the rally, saying the same thing. She spent three years pounding the streets for clues after Angie was killed, she said. She has fought to have new DNA tested and often encountered resistance. Carol Dodge urged police and prosecutors to “do the right thing” — to let Tapp out and turn their investigative efforts to finding the man who left semen, hair and skin cells at the scene. She said she won’t let up the pressure until the man who killed her daughter is found. “(Police) thought, ‘If we just make an arrest, Carol will go away,’” she said. “Twenty years later, I’m still here.”

GIST:  Around 70 people packed a small theater in the Artitorium on Broadway on Tuesday night to watch a presentation suggesting that Chris Tapp was wrongfully convicted of the 1996 murder of Angie Dodge, and to discuss how to apply pressure to free Tapp. Carol Dodge, Angie’s mother, was at the rally along with Vera Tapp, Chris’s mother, and another man who was initially investigated in the case but later cleared. So was John Thomas, Tapp’s public defender, Jolyn Thomas, a journalist who has actively campaigned for Tapp’s release, Judge Mike Heavey, the co-founder of Judges for Justice, and a host of others involved in a small but growing grassroots effort to free Tapp.
Heavey’s group has produced several reports suggesting that Tapp was psychologically coerced into confessing by being threatened with the death penalty and being offered the promise of immunity in return for cooperation. Much of the presentation focused on a video affidavit Heavey filed in a recent appeal, which alleges that prosecutors didn’t turn over three pieces of exculpatory evidence in the case. ..One woman from the audience asked what the public could do to exert pressure on police and prosecutors. “Speak out and tell the truth,” Heavey said. “As long as they’re sitting around defending the Chris Tapp conviction, they’ll have blinders on.” Carol Dodge took the stage at the end of the rally, saying the same thing. She spent three years pounding the streets for clues after Angie was killed, she said. She has fought to have new DNA tested and often encountered resistance.
