Annie Doukhan: Commentary; American Civil Liberties Union says it's "time for a reckoning." Boston Herald

COMMENTARY: "Time for a reckoning in lab scandal." by Matthew L. Segal. published by the Boston Herald on March 7, 2014. (Matthew R. Segal is legal director for the ACLU of Massachusetts.)

GIST: " In a petition now pending with the court, the American Civil Liberties Union has proposed that prosecutors bear the burden of resolving the drug lab cases. The petition argues that, instead of requiring defense attorneys to figure out which Dookhan cases they can challenge, prosecutors should have to identify cases they think they can salvage. And any conviction that prosecutors don’t salvage within a reasonable period of time should simply be dropped, once and for all. That solution is only fair. The state created this mess, so the state should take charge of cleaning it up. After nearly three years of delay, unfairness, and expense, it’s time for justice and common sense. It’s time for a reckoning."
