"More cases involving drug charges are being thrown out in Braintree after an investigation into the police department’s evidence room. So far, 15 cases have been dismissed and many more are expected after hundreds of cases have been reopened. A recent audit of the police department’s evidence room revealed that thousands of pieces of evidence are missing, including drugs and $500,000 in cash. “It’s really surprising and I’m really disappointed in the police department for allowing this to happen,” said defense attorney Otto Santana. “And of course that puts in jeopardy the innocence or guilt of many defendants.” The investigation began back in May.
