GIST: The detective credited with putting Australia’s worst female serial killer behind bars acted like a “raging bull” during a violent assault against his former lover, a court has heard. Superintendent Bernard Ryan, 49, hailed a hero for his dogged investigation into how NSW woman Kathleen Folbigg killed her four babies, pleaded not guilty to assaulting his ex-partner of two-and-a-half years.

Bianca Hudson, 40, broke down in tears at Downing Centre Local Court yesterday while recounting how Ryan allegedly grabbed her by the throat and threw her on to a bed at a Newcastle hotel in September 2015. The court heard the pair met while working together at a NSW Police Transport Command in 2012.  They started an on-again off-again relationship from mid-2013 after previously being married to other people. Ms Hudson, an unsworn civilian officer with the police, described Ryan as like a “raging bull” when he came back to the hotel where she was sleeping. “He just was so angry, he stormed straight towards me on the bed and I sat up and he picked me up by my neck with his hand and held me up in the air,” she said.........Ryan, who is currently suspended with pay by NSW Police and denies the allegations, was widely praised for bringing serial killer Folbigg to justice when she was convicted in 2003.
