The state Superior Court has upheld the conviction and lengthy prison
sentence for Jose Antonio Ramos, a former inmate at a state prison near
Dallas who was once considered a suspect in the disappearance of a New
York City boy in 1979......Ramos served a 27-year sentence for molesting children in Erie County, Pa, according to the state Department of Corrections.........Ramos had long been a suspect in the May 25,
1979 disappearance of Etan Patz, 6, who went missing after leaving his
Manhattan residence to go to a school bus stop. Patz became the first
child to appear on milk cartons as part of a nationwide program designed
to locate missing children. Investigators had focused on Ramos, in part because he had been dating the boy’s babysitter. Pedro
Hernandez, 51, of New Jersey, was eventually charged in May 2012 with
Patz’s disappearance. A jury in New York Supreme Court in Manhattan has
been deliberating the Hernandez case for 16 days."
